Bowl Season Getting in full Swing

December 21st, 2011 Comments off

With the college bowl season ramping up, its time to get a few trustworthy online sportsbooks to play at. The college bowl season can be very profitable if you play it smart.

Always have a few trustworthy sportsbooks to shop the line with, and use a units system based on how much you like your pick. You cant play every game, but you can a few making sure you are putting your “real” money on the games you feel more confident about. Just like the NFL, find a few bowls (games) you really like and know that’s where you load up. Its OK to play a small amount on lesser games, but always remember a true pick you like should be at least 5 times more than a game your betting just to bet and watch.

Check out our listing of the best USA Online Sportsbooks and open an account at all of them. Shop the line and get the best line possible, a half a point or point can and will make a huge difference over time. We highly recommend the Intertops and BetOnline. Both have been in business for almost ever and offer great payout options which are speedy.

See our Intertops Sportsbook Review or BetOnline Review, we have played at both for years and have never had a problem. The other great thing is if you like online poker, they also offer a full poker client and casino.

Good luck this Bowl Season!

NFL Football is on

July 26th, 2011 Comments off

While we always thought it would happen, we were so pleased with the announcement the players union and owners came to an agreement to bring us the NFL season for 2011. Now is the perfect time to get your ducks in a row and choose the best online sportsbooks and open a few accounts.

We have a listing of USA online sportsbooks but our list is short. We have been betting on sports for over 20 years and have used our share of good and bad books. We only have listed the top 3 online sportsbooks which we consider to be the best and have great reputations for fast payouts and stability. Also check out our NFL teaser strategy which add some serious cash to your bankroll!

Our top online sportsbooks is Intertops. Intertops has been in the online sports betting business since 1983! How many other offshore sportsbooks have been around that long? We don’t know of a single one. Sign up at the Intertops Sportsbook and either receive a free $20 bet or get a 100% match on your first deposit up to $100. For more information see our Intertops Sportsbook review for full details and sign up.

The other two books we recommend are BetOnline.com and Bodog. Both are solid books and accept USA residents. Bodog has been a dominant force in the online gaming world for over 15 years and BetOnline has been in business for 10 years. While BetOnline is our youngest recommended sportsbook, the management staff there all have extensive backgrounds in the industry and know the business very well. For more details on both sportsbooks see the Bodog Sportsbook review and the BetOnline.com review.

We highly recommend you sign up at a few different sportsbooks, minimum of two. The difference in the lines you find could turn a mediocre season into a great season!

Avoiding Bad Situations

December 15th, 2010 Comments off

A rookie mistake when playing online poker is putting themselves in bad situations and not being able to get out of them. To many times a green player will call the blind because its cheap. They may find themselves calling the blind with suited K-4 or A-9 or any mediocre hand like non-suited connectors cause they figure its “only the blind amount”.

This sort of thinking can become much more dangerous than just wasting money on the blind. Say you call with K-4 and a King hits the flop. What now? Maybe you have top pair but you have a horrible kicker. Too many times it ends up costing you more than just a blind, and can actually end up crippling you in a tournament. If any other caller also has a King, chances are you end up losing the hand and a substantial amount of chips.

A good rule of thumb is that if you are not willing to raise pre-flop the hand is not worth playing. This is especially true if you are the first to act or the first to call. Of course you may play hands that you call a raiser with a strong hand, but just limping in because you can afford the blind can end up costing you much more.

Simple tip and simple poker strategy. Don’t put yourself in a bad situation because too many times it can be hard to get out of.

This tip applies to full seated ring games. When the number of players reduce or even become head’s up, then you must loosen your play up, but again you should play hands where you think you are ahead pre-flop. Either by the cards you hold or your confidence in outplaying your opponent.

If your looking for an online poker site to play at and a great bonus see our USA Poker Room Reviews.

Head’s Up Poker

December 14th, 2010 Comments off

One of our favorite games to play is Hold’em Head’s Up Tournaments. Head’s Up Tournaments need to played a little different than regular tournaments, because pots odds are not as important as in a full seated tournament. The value of suited connectors and looking for the flush become less valuable because you wont get the odds you would if you were facing a few opponents rather than just one.

Aggression becomes very important in Head’s Up and a pair will hold up much better than if you were facing 9 or 10 opponents in a regular tournament. Playing Head’s Tournaments also gives you some practice if you were playing in bigger tourney’s and make to the final table and eventually trying to win the tournament.

We like Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet the most when playing Head’s Up. Both sites offer a great selection of Head’s Up tournaments and site traffic is very good so there is always an opponent to face.

At both sites Head’s Up tournaments start at a $1 buy-in and go all way up to a $5000 buy-in. Hold’em, Omaha and 7 Stud are offered Head’s Up with Hold’em getting the most players.

They also offer a standard blind format where the blinds increase every 10 minutes, Turbo (5 min blinds) and Ultra Turbo Tournaments where the blinds increase every 2.5 minutes. If you are really looking for instant gratification you play in the Ultra Turbo tourney’s with 300 starting Chips.

Other poker sites which offers good Head’s Tournament selection are Fulltilt Poker, Carbon Poker and PlayersOnlyPoker.

You can read more about Head’s Up Tournament’s here in our poker strategy section.

Setting Poker Goals

November 11th, 2010 Comments off

We have added a new poker strategy article titled setting goals. The article outlines what we feel are some important aspects when playing poker and setting goals on the amount you looking to win or lose.

Just like in life, when playing poker you must set goals if you want to be successful. Have in your mind what you are willing to risk or lose for a day, week or month. Also have in your mind what you are looking to win. By sticking to your goals you can mange your bankroll better and also hopefully help you achieve some larger goals you may have.

Playing at Smaller Poker Sites

October 20th, 2010 Comments off

We have added a new Poker Strategy article titled Playing Smaller Poker Sites that you may find useful. This article explains the reasons why we prefer playing at the smaller poker sites such as Poker4ever and Cake Poker.

The article is based around the ability to play the same players over and over, something you won’t find at the big sites. It entails keeping notes on your opponents as well as yourself. In a nut shell it allows to know how your opponents play, and how your opponents view your play.

Ummm, aren’t they two pretty important keys to successful poker?

NFL Teaser Strategy

October 19th, 2010 Comments off

Betting NFL teasers is one of our favorite things to do, and it can be yours as well using a little strategy. Almost all USA Online Sportsbooks offer teasers, and with a little common sense and this strategy it can be very profitable.

Teasers allow players to move the line in their favor for a price. All teasers must contain at least two teams, and are generally offered at 110/100 odds, meaning you lay $110 to win $100 on a 6 point teaser (you can also move the line more than 6 points for a higher price).

In a 6 point teaser, if a team is -6.5 then in your teaser you move the line to -.5, meaning the team must only win for the play to be successful. Likewise, if a team is +6.5, in your teaser the line moves to +12.5 and your team can lose by 12 points and it is still a winner.

In the NFL, lines of 3, 7 and 10 are very important numbers as they represent a field goal, a touchdown and the combination of both.  Using this strategy we will move the line across these very important numbers.

In the NFL we will look to “tease” the line on underdogs across these numbers. If a team is +1.5 to +2.5 we can tease the line past the 3 AND 7 making the line +7.5 to +8.5. Now our team can lose by a field goal or touchdown and we still win our wager. This is our best scenario, as the line dictates it should be a very close game with the favorite only favored by a point or two. Vegas is telling us they believe it will be a close game, and under our scenario we just gave ourselves a touchdown to play with.

If we cant find the above lines, we look to move the line past the 7 and 10 number. While this is not as optimal as the previous, it still can be very profitable.

This strategy does not work for teasing the favorite down. Many times bettors will want to tease the favorite down to a lower number. Say a team is -6, do not be tempted to take the team down to “pick em”. Under this scenerio you only cross the 3, and if a team is favored by less than a touchdown they very well may not win at all.

We hope you find this post useful, and happy wagering. If you need a sportsbook to use check out the BetOnline review, they are very reputable and offer all types of wagers or see all USA Online Sportsbooks.
